The Grammar School at Leeds prides itself on having a committed, professional, caring and well qualified team of staff.  The school is friendly, fun and supportive, while insisting upon and maintaining high expectations. We employ over 400 staff at our outstanding 140-acre campus in Alwoodley Gates in north Leeds in a wide range of teaching and non-teaching roles. In 2024, GSAL was named Sunday Times North Independent Secondary School of the Year and of the decade in 2021.

Teaching roles
Our professional, passionate and well-qualified teaching staff are strongly focused upon excellence in the classroom and contributions to the wider life of the school. The rewards for such staff are a good degree of autonomy in their teaching, outstanding resources, freedom from government edict and an attractive package (including a generous DC Pension Scheme and ECT/QTS support).

There are many opportunities for leadership within the school, whether through curricular development, pastoral roles, the house system, or leading co-curricular development: CPD is well funded with many staff achieving good career progression within the school. Find out more about Living in Leeds.

Support roles
There is also a team of dedicated, professional non-teaching staff, who can also develop their career through our professional development programme as well as enjoying excellent working conditions.

Support team roles include finance, external relations, estates, catering, technicians and administration.

Teacher training roles
Every year we have a number of unsalaried teacher-training positions available through the Schools Direct programme. For further information please visit the Yorkshire Teaching School Alliance or the White Rose Alliance.

Excellent benefits
We provide an enticing and comprehensive range of benefits. Enjoy complimentary online GP services, indulge in delicious school lunches for £1 and embrace a healthy lifestyle through pilates, swimming, and gym classes. In addition, we offer generous leave and pension contributions and a range of other rewards.
