Why GSAL?

Why us?

Choosing a school is perhaps one of the most important decisions you will ever make as a parent. The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) for pupils from age 3 to 18 provides the perfect environment in which your child can develop both academically and socially. In 2020 we were named by The Sunday Times as being the top Northern Independent Secondary School of the decade in the country and some of the advantages of studying at GSAL include:

  • Unique diamond educational model (between the ages of 11 and 16 boys and girls are taught separately, yet benefit from the social aspects of co-education)
  • Leading school in Yorkshire for the English Baccalaureate (EBacc is a school performance indicator linked to GCSE results)
  • Department for Education progress description is “well above average” for value added between GCSE and A-level, placing GSAL in the top 4% of schools nationally
  • Outstanding record of students going on to study at a Russell Group university
  • Modern, purpose-designed campus provides an attractive and safe learning environment
  • Beautiful semi-rural, easily accessible location with well-managed grounds
  • Extensive facilities
  • Opportunities to compete and develop in all areas of the curriculum

Value added

In 2018 the school was placed in the top 10% nationally for adding value at A-level, according to data produced by the Advanced Level Performance System (ALPS), a national provider of value added analysis.  Both our internal tracking and analysis of our examination results by external bodies confirms our excellent performance – and our value added at GCSE is even better!

The following video explains the importance of ‘value added’ and how it can help students exceed expectations.
