Amraj pops back to school and pops the question

Friday 31 January 2020

When Amraj Badesha suggested to his girlfriend Nikita Patel that they pay a visit back to The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) where they met, she had no reason to suspect that wedding bells were in the air.

Both are GSAL alumni, from the class of 2014, so taking the opportunity to revisit the places they spent their schooldays and catch up with some former teachers seemed perfectly natural.

However, there was some meticulous planning going on behind the scenes. Amraj had been in touch with our alumni team to ask for support in engineering a pause in the proceedings so that he could ask Nikita something that had been on his mind.

Walking around the school with former teachers Mr James Veitch and Mrs Georgie Dee, the pair paused under the porte cochère, Amraj dropped onto one knee and asked Nikita to be his wife. He presented her with a stunning diamond ring and a copy of GSAL Life, into which he had pasted photos of them together and the words “Nikita, will you marry me?”

Thankfully, Nikita was only too happy to say yes!

Choosing a location for this memorable moment was simple for Amraj. He said: “School is where we met so it will always be special to us. Despite being apart for five years during our student days we have kept going, and I’m so happy that we started a new chapter of our lives where it all began.”

Amraj and Nikita are now living back in Leeds. After a degree in quantity surveying at Nottingham University, Amraj is working in his home city for Fox Lloyd Jones Chartered Surveyors. Nikita is working as a junior doctor in Huddersfield, following her training at Liverpool University.

We wish them every happiness for their future together and thank them for sharing this special moment with us at GSAL!
