Principal’s message

Xīnnián hǎo! We wish the whole school community new year goodness as the Chinese New Year celebrations started this week.

2022 marks the year of the tiger, with notable characteristics including ambition, courage, enthusiasm and generosity as well as a sense of justice and a commitment to help others for the greater good. This could not be more in tune with GSAL’s values.

The two weeks of new year festivities echo the increase in activities in school as we keep inching our way towards a greater degree of normality. Many of our sports’ teams are performing well in the latter stages of national competitions, GSAL Primary will enjoy Book Week next week, and the much loved House Music competition is underway, with the finale next Thursday – so much to look forward to!

But next week also marks Children’s Mental Health Week and our key message is: active, positive and discerning choices online and off-line can support our wellbeing. More of this in next week’s bulletin but plans are afoot for a range of awareness-raising events to remind our pupils how to look after themselves and their friends, and how school can help them, so that they always feel safe and secure, now and into the future. Nothing is more important.

Wishing you a lovely weekend.

Sue Woodroofe
Principal

Charity collection

Friday 11 February

There will be a charity collection for Leeds baby bank (cash donations not baby items). This links into Children’s Mental Health Week, as giving to others is in the NHS top 5 steps to mental wellbeing. Supporting this collection is a practical step students can take not only to support local families in need but also their own mental wellbeing. Students can contribute to the cash donations during form tutor time.

GSAL ski trip

February 2023

After overwhelming demand, we cannot accept any more applications to the GSAL Ski Trip 2023. As described in the trip letter places are very limited and we will be offering places on a fair, first come first served basis. Once the total capacity of the trip has been confirmed by the travel company, we will be in touch with all applicants to let them know whether they have been successful or not.

Students who are unfortunately not offered a place on the trip, will be offered the opportunity to be placed on to a waiting list for the trip and will be notified in turn if someone drops out from the trip and subsequently offered a place on the trip. If placed onto the waiting list your deposit will be held by the school. If you do not wish to be placed onto the waiting list, your deposit will be returned to you as soon as possible.
