Drama students have stars in their eyes

Three students from The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) are heading to drama schools after picking up their A-level results today (Tuesday August 10).

Nicky, Aimee and Leela have all won places at prestigious drama schools.

Nicky, from Boston Spa, achieved A*s in drama and government and politics, an A in English literature and a B in history, and will study contemporary performance practice at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London; Leela, from Chapel Allerton is heading to School Jacques Lecoq in Paris to study drama after gaining an A* in drama, and Bs in art and design, English language and French; and Aimee, from Pudsey, gained an A in drama, a B in business studies and a C in government and politics and will study costume at Arts University Bournemouth.

More than half (58 per cent) of students at GSAL achieved the top grades of three As or more, with 17 students gaining 4 A*s and a further 22 achieving at least three A*s.

  • 40 per cent were passes at A*
  • 72 per cent of grades were at A*and A
  • 88 per cent of grades were at A*-B

Principal Mrs Sue Woodroofe said: “This year has seen our young people grow in confidence and resilience as they have faced up to the challenges of the pandemic. This experience will stand them in good stead for the future. Their success is down to hard work and determination, supported by the versatility and commitment of our amazing teachers.  I am in awe of them all.”
