ESAA National Cross Country Finals held at GSAL

Saturday 3 December saw the 41st English Schools Athletic Association (ESAA) Cross Country National Cup Final hosted at The Grammar School at Leeds. Over 100 schools came from all over the country to compete, with thousands of spectators cheering on the young athletes.

The runners rose to the challenge of an undulating course that weaved around the school’s playing fields and woodland paths.

Guests of honour included former ESAA chairperson and Leeds Girls’ High School alumna, Jill Wright (OG55) and Olympic triathlon gold medallist Jess Learmonth, who awarded prizes to the winners and had inspirational messages for every competitor.

Congratulations to all the competitors and winners who performed spectacularly across the six races:

Junior Girls 2400m winner: Kitty of Guildford High (Surrey): 8m19s

Junior Boys 3000m winner: Tom of Silverdale School (Sheffield): 8m07s

Inter Girls 3000m winner: Katie of Guildford High (Surrey): 8m44s

Inter Boys 4500m winner: Jake of St George’s Weybridge (Surrey): 13m55s

Senior Girls 3500m winner: Jemima of Sir William Borlase’s Grammar School (Buckinghamshire): 10m52s

Senior Boys 5100m winner: Harry of Bourne Grammar School (Lincolnshire): 16m18s
