School celebrates 100 years of scouting

Thursday 7 October 2021

A weekend of celebrations has been held at The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) to mark the centenary of scouting at the school and its predecessor, Leeds Grammar School.

More than 50 former pupils, joined around 250 former and current scouts, as well as parents and scout leaders for two days of fun and games and the chance to camp overnight.

The event was organized by GSAL Scout Leader, John Bagshaw, the school’s head of design technology, alongside Alan Naylor, Group Scout Leader, who has been, and still is, involved in scouting at the school since he was a pupil in 1964.

John said: “This was an excellent event that showcased the impact that scouting has on young people and how the scout community see themselves as a scouting family forever.

“We were fortunate to have great weather, a fabulous location and great food. The event was testament to all of the people directly or indirectly involved in maintaining our wonderful group from Beavers all the way to Explorers.”
