What to expect

Learning in its widest sense

Whether you’re moving up from our senior school or joining us from elsewhere, sixth form at The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) offers a highly distinctive, coeducational experience.

The essential ingredients of the sixth form at GSAL are small class sizes, a wide choice of subjects and activities, a superb purpose-built sixth form centre, a highly dedicated team of teachers and advisers, and a student body characterised by extraordinary energy, intelligence and camaraderie.

Sixth form life also involves so much more than simply academic study – it provides an environment for learning in its widest sense, enabling students to acquire knowledge and skills while learning more about themselves as individuals. Our sixth form does this by scheduling time outside the classroom for opportunities such as volunteering, enrichment courses, lecture series and sport.

For further details on joining our sixth form please download our Sixth Form Prospectus or take a look at the video below.

Exam results amongst the best in the country

You can choose from 26 A-level subjects, which are taught by experienced specialist teachers, enhancing your chance of winning a top university place. Relationships between staff and students are based on mutual respect and a commitment to fulfilling your potential.

Consistently excellent exam results mean our students have an impressive record of progressing to their chosen higher education destination.

All students are members of a small tutorial group, with a form tutor providing general academic and pastoral support. We also have dedicated staff providing personal advice on careers, university courses and Oxbridge entry.

Tremendous co-curricular opportunities

You will also have superb co-curricular opportunities. We provide the chance to excel in your passion, to participate or simply to try something new. You can also develop your skills as a leader by running clubs, teams and house activities for younger pupils.

Our sixth form students are ambassadors for the school and we expect them to present themselves accordingly. For example you won’t wear school uniform – instead, we expect you to dress in a manner that is appropriate for a professional environment.

If you join us for sixth form, we expect you to take responsibility for yourself, to study hard and make the most of what’s on offer. Where this may lead is up to you!
