Stellar seventeen celebrate straight A stars at A level

Thursday 16 August 2012

A level students at GSAL are celebrating a record set of results with 17 students achieving A* grades in three or more subjects.

Of these, one student has a remarkable five A*s, seven students gained four A*s and nine achieved three A*s, amounting to 20 per cent of this year’s cohort.

Overall the results at GSAL are up on last year with a record 99.9 per cent of students gaining a pass at grades A* to E, 79 per cent achieving passes at grades A* to B, and 55 per cent at A* and A.

Students recorded strong results in ‘traditional’ subjects, with 100 per cent of those taking French achieving A*, A or B. The top three grades were achieved by 82 per cent of candidates in English literature, 92 per cent in mathematics, 91 per cent in physics and 81 per cent in chemistry.

Principal Mike Gibbons said, “These results are the culmination of dedication and sheer hard work and I am very proud of our students.

“Changes in admissions policies this year mean that universities can recruit as many students with AAB results as they wish, which puts our students in an extremely strong position. I offer my congratulations to all of them and to the staff for the part they have played in these well-earned achievements.”

Five star student Daisy Prior (pictured fourth left) achieved a total of five A*s, in art and design, maths, further maths, physics and French, securing her place at Pembroke College, Cambridge, to study engineering.
