The Grammar School at Leeds to host BBC Question Time

Thursday 10 February 2022

The Grammar School at Leeds is to host the BBC’s flagship political debate programme, Question Time, for the first time in its history.

The programme, being broadcast on Thursday 17 February at 10.35pm on BBC1, will be presented by Fiona Bruce in the school’s assembly hall. The panel will be announced the day before on the show’s Twitter account, @bbcquestiontime. If you would like to apply to be part of the audience you may do so via the BBC website.

Principal, Sue Woodroofe said, “We are delighted to be hosting Question Time. We have a vibrant school community where student voice and opinion is celebrated and respected, not to mention a popular and successful debating society, so it is fitting that we welcome some of our country’s foremost thinkers and politicians to discuss the pressing matters of our time. Even though the filming falls within our half term break, we are sure many of our pupils will be inspired by the quality of debate on display in an environment which is so familiar to them.”

The assembly hall, where the programme will be filmed, is an integral part of school life where assemblies, productions, prize-giving ceremonies, parents’ evenings and annual public examinations take place – but look out for the organ, the hall’s most redeeming and recognisable feature, gifted to Leeds Grammar School in 1987 by generous old boys and made by the famous Leeds firm, Messrs J J Binns around 1920.
