GSAL enters new partnership with Ilkley Literature Festival

Friday 22 June 2012

Book-loving young people are set to benefit from a host of exciting events at this year’s Ilkley Literature Festival as a major new partnership with the Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) is announced.

GSAL will be the major sponsor of the Children’s Festival, a central part of the Ilkley Literature Festival which is the largest event of its kind in the north of England, attracting the country’s best known authors.

Leading children’s writers Michael Morpurgo and Zizou Corder are to head the line-up at the Children’s Festival, which will offer a huge range of events for children aged 3 to 12, including the Children’s Weekend dedicated to activities for young people and the annual Children’s Poetry Competition.

Rachel Feldberg, Director of Ilkley Literature Festival, said, “We are immensely grateful to all our sponsors, and particularly to GSAL for their support for our Children’s Festival.

“Every year Ilkley Literature Festival offers a huge range of exciting events for children and their families, and this year we are planning story times, drama, writing and making workshops, theatre performances, children’s poetry events and our popular meet the author sessions, including a family event with former Children’s Laureate and much loved author, Michael Morpurgo.

“GSAL’s sponsorship will enable us to extend our outreach work in schools and community groups across West Yorkshire, and we look forward to involving their students and staff in Festival activities.”

GSAL Principal Mike Gibbons, said, “We are delighted to support the Children’s Festival which inspires and engages schoolchildren across the region with opportunities to meet writers and get involved in creative activities themselves.”

Ilkley Literature Festival runs from 28 September to 14 October 2012. The full programme will be published in August and booking opens on Tuesday 28 August, online or via the box office on 01943 816714.
