I will aim to help the delegates understand the work Beyond Equality do and help guide them in suggesting the best ways to open up conversations on masculinity with the young people they work with. What you will get out of it: The delegates should come out of the workshop with a greater understanding of how to challenge the more harmful masculine norms and attitudes in their own lives and how to help those young people they work with challenge them too Profile of facilitator: Beyond Equality began as schools (Great Men) and university (Good Lad) projects, both of which used interactive conversations with young men and boys to give them the chance to think about who they would like to be and to discover how they could help to create safer and equitable communities. Nathaniel Horne is the Schools Coordinator for Beyond Equality and has over 7 years experience of facilitating conversations with young people. His main work interest is hearing young people’s genuine voices and opinions (not the ones they pick up from social media). Richie Etherington-Benson is an experienced educator, youth worker, trainer and facilitator, focused on social activism, building inclusive communities and gender-based violence prevention. He has worked with young people in schools, youth groups, colleges, universities and community centres; and with adults in a range of corporate and charity settings, both in the UK and internationally.
