Name of Workshop
Beyond Diversity: How can we Decolonise the Curriculum?
Who is it for
Secondary school teachers, curriculum leads and school leaders.
Brief synopsis of workshop:
This workshop will dive into the Decolonising the Curriculum movement in secondary education. We will look at why there is a need to take a decolonial approach to the curriculum by exploring some of the theories that have inspired decolonial thought in the classroom and beyond. In addition, Fred will present some practical examples from his own work that demonstrate how a decolonial curriculum, might encourage secondary school students to think critically and expansively as they explore history, literature, and discover their place in modern British society.
What you will get out of it:
- A theoretical overview of what decolonising the curriculum means and how it might apply to secondary school education.
- Practical examples of decolonial curriculum and teaching techniques from the history curriculum.
- Opportunities to explore how decolonial theory can be applied to a wide range of subjects and in delegate’s own practice
Profile of facilitator:
