The demands of social media and mobile technology on their time and attention has effectively rewired their brains to crave instant gratification and to be in a constant state of split attention and multi-tasking. As educators, we have a responsibility to be aware of and responsive to these changes so that our students can continue to be successful in an educational world that demands the opposite from them. With reference to psychological, sociological and educational research, this workshop aims to explain some of these changes and offer some evidence informed solutions to the problems associated with teaching and learning in the social media age. What you will get out of it: An understanding of how and why social media and mobile technology impacts learning, and some tangible solutions to take back to your own classrooms.
