Celebrations as over 70% of GCSE grades are 7+ (A+)

Thursday 25 August 2022

Students are celebrating outstanding results at The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) with over 70% of GCSE grades at 7 or above – the equivalent of A*/A under the previous system.

More than half (52 per cent) of all grades were at 8 and 9, with 31 per cent at the highly sought-after grade 9.

Thirty seven students scooped grade 8s or 9s in every subject, including 11 who secured the top grade of 9 in all of their GCSEs.

Principal Sue Woodroofe said: “I am extremely proud of our GCSE students and they thoroughly deserve these results. They responded so positively to the school’s online learning provision throughout each lockdown of recent years and have impressed everyone with their commitment, hard-work and enthusiasm. As a cohort they have been supported and encouraged by staff and their families, and most importantly one another.

Their experience over the past two and a half years will be a source of strength as they look to their A level studies, and I am excited for what these  young people will continue to achieve as they grow and develop in sixth form.”
