Emily Boggs, a Y7 pupil at The Grammar School at Leeds has presented a cheque for £510 to Sally Amos, Secretary of the Candlelighters’ Trust, during assembly at the school.
Emily was representing her year group who had raised the money at their Christmas fair where they had great fun creating stalls and side shows.
Sally spoke to the pupils about the work of Candlelighters, which was founded in Yorkshire in the 1970s to support children who have cancer and their families.
She told the pupils how the money they had raised would be spent, including on the six holiday centres which Candlelighters has on the east coast where families with a child who has cancer can go for a rest, safe in the knowledge that the hospital is within easy reach.
Other ways the funds will be used are to provide equipment in the Candlelighters’ centre, extra staffing, such as play therapists and nurses, as well as cancer research.
